More upgrades coming this summer to single-parent housing

A new member of the Single-Parent Program, Ashlee Gainey, and her daughter, Iris, recently moved into the first house on campus used by the Single-Parent Program to undergo renovation.

Ashlee and Iris moved here this spring from Sarasota, after learning about the Single-Parent Program at their church. Ashlee is doing lawn care work this summer but plans to begin medical assisting classes this fall at Lake Technical College (Lake Tech).

Plans are underway to make up to $60,000 in renovations to homes and apartments on the MDCH campus occupied by single-parent families like Ashlee. Work is expected to start soon on the apartments on West 13th Avenue. These apartments were built in the 1970s and this is the first significant renovation.
